Fixing Jammed Garage Doors06/11/2016 Back To Blog
Broken Cable Replacement
You cannot close your automatic garage door. It hangs above the floor and refuses to move. You are most likely faced with a snapped cable. Another notable sign of this problem is that the door hangs slightly on one side. The solution is the replacement of the broken component. This is an urgent type of repair for two major reasons. Firstly, you will be leaving the contents of your garage unprotected if you procrastinate. Secondly and more importantly, there is a high risk of the door going off track. This can pose a serious safety risk. The track can easily break and will have to be replaced too. The new cable should have the same length and attachment as the old one.
Bent Track Repair
Track bending is perhaps the most common reason for garage door jamming. The rollers cannot pass through the narrowed section even if their wheels are made from nylon. Close inspection will reveal how badly the track is bent. If repair is possible, the section will be straightened and everything will go back to normal. If the damage is great and the component is close to breaking, replacement will be the best solution. In general, thicker tracks have a lower risk of bending. Proper maintenance will also help to avoid this kind of problem. Inspect the tracks closely on a regular basis and watch out for slight bending. Remove any obstructions including sticky dirt immediately. If the vertical and horizontal sections are misaligned, they should be properly adjusted.
