Check regularly if the garage door seals need replacing
There is a simple method you can use to check this. Go inside the garage during the day and close all doors without turning the light on. If you see light passing through between the garage door and the walls, then the seals are thin and worn. You should replace them as soon as possible to ensure proper insulation and panel protection.
Ensure all garage door controls are out of the reach of children
The stationary control, like the interior control panel and an outdoor keypad, should be installed higher than 5 feet from the floor according to the present safety standards. You should keep your remote away from kids too. Never leave it on the table or in the car’s glove compartment where it can be easily found and used.
Clean your garage door properly in the spring and fall
If you have a steel door, the most common type, you should wash it with a liquid detergent solution and soapy water. Use a soft sponge to remove the dirt and do it gently. It’s essential to rinse the door with clean water and a sponge. Do not use the garden hose as this may put your unit at higher risk of damage.
